Can the government really penalize us for wanting to be married? Them liberals think they can!

Penalized for Marriage…
One thing I hear often when talking about the Don’t Ask Don’t Tell policy, is that “people have a right to serve their country.” This is an interesting statement. It sounds convincing by itself, but think about this:
“Serving your country” is an extremely broad statement. First of all, you can “serve your country” without being in the military, and the debate centers around the military. Second, you don’t have a right to be in the military. Show me where it says we have the right to serve in the military.
A guy I know was signing up for the National Guard, but he didn’t make it. He has mild ADHD. He doesn’t have the right to serve in the military. Really – none of us do.
To tie back to my first paragraph: the argument that people have a right to serve their country is misleading and a trick.
Compulsory Immunization?
This is a paper I wrote for my teen leadership class. The assignment was to write a paper sharing whether or not you would allow homosexual marriage or not and why. I still haven’t been given a grade yet, but here it is anyways.
I think I will keep using the Scribd viewers from now on. If you have a problem or just don’t like it, please let me know.
Well over the past few weeks, I’ve really started to question how Jesus would have addressed homosexuality. It brought me to do a lot of research, and it ended up with me altering my views on homosexual marriage. I’ve come to the conclusion that Jesus would not care whether someone was homosexual or not. He just wouldn’t care.
One of the things this website stressed was the story of Zacchaeus. Jesus didn’t say anything to Zacchaeus about his career choice, He just loved him. I really think that’s what God is calling us to do. Not deny homosexuals, but to push past their choices, and head for the person inside. Now this doesn’t mean that I believe homosexuality isn’t a sin, that it still is. I’m just saying Jesus had something else in mind. There’s more to the issue than arguing whether something is right or wrong.
Another thing I found elsewhere was the verse Hosea 6:6: For I desire mercy, not sacrifice, and acknowledgment of God rather than burnt offerings.
The Israelites were offering their sacrifices to God, not because it pleased Him, but because it was the law. This actually made God angry. Isn’t it the same thing when we deny homosexual marriage?
I had to write a paper for my Teen Leadership class whether I would allow homosexual marriage or not, and why. This really fortified my new view. I will post it so you can read through it (it’s only two pages) within the next day or two.
Until then, I recommend you take a quick glance at what this website has to say on the issue: What Would Jesus Say? I found it very nice whilst writing my paper.
Galatians 5:25-26 ~ Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other.
How to be a liberal 101
I have come to realize I know many people who claim to be “liberal”, but are really just in the middle somewhere. I am creating this quick list to enlighten them on how to become a real liberal.
- Blame conservatives for everything – even if it was your fault!
- There are never enough taxes!
- Driving = good! CO2 means more reason to tax!
- The government is the ultimate authority; even over reason and logic.
- Make up statistics that support your argument.
- Citizens know nothing, only you know what they need.
- Homosexuality is good for the soul.
- Euthanasia and abortion are not murder.
- Ignore sentences that use the word “dictator”.
- Republicans are racist.
- “Safe-sex” doesn’t tell kids to have sex!
- All religion is evil.
- There is no true freedom till the government owns you.
- All tragedies are results of businessmen and Bush.
- Promise to give, but take instead! Muahahaha!
- The only answer to problems caused by government is… more government!
- Anyone who resists you judgement is either: racist, ignorant, religious, or challenged psychologically.
- Keeping promises is so last year.
- Liberal government = Saint! Conservative government = Evil! Private Sector = Evil!
- When all else fails, use personal attacks.
If you follow these 20 points, you will surely become a well-known liberal!
The Role of the Government
Well I found this site that had a great outline of what the role of the government is (according to the Bible). I was given permission to just copy the list as long as I cited the site, but it didn’t work that well. It looks much better with their template:
Is Drug Abuse a Sin?
Many people use the argument that the Bible never said anything about drugs, as an irrational excuse to believe that drugs are okay. Here is why that is incorrect:
- Ephesians 5:18: Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit.
Essentially getting high on drugs is the same as getting drunk on wine.
- 1 Corinthians 3:16-17: Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit lives in you? If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy him; for God’s temple is sacred, and you are that temple.
Whether physically, or psychologically, all drugs do a toll on the body.
- Isaiah 26:3: Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayedon thee: because he trusteth in thee.
Those who need drugs certainly aren’t running to God (the ultimate fortress of peace) for comfort, but worldly things.
Is File-Sharing a Sin?
A friend of mine is a frequent user of Limewire, surely you have hear of it. I’ve been trying to convince him that it’s a sin to download songs/movies without paying for them.
To take something that someone else has bought and use it like you bought it (without actually buying it) is stealing.
“Thou shall not steal”
That same buddy of mine who uses Limewire tried to justify it by saying that each CD (using music as an example) can be duplicated 3-5 times depending on the record studio.
Though that is many times true, that is for the same household. If I took a Relient K CD that I just bought, and sent all the music to you for you to put on your computer/ipod/cd, that would be in violation of the law, which is still stealing.
I don’t hear about many people getting in trouble for using programs like Limewire, but does that make it OK? Most definitely not! But what do you think?
