Second Debate Tournament

Well this tournament turned out to be quite a bit better than last weekend! I sure had loads of fun and learned a lot about how to debate. Here is how my rounds went:

  1. Win – My opponent had written his cases on the wrong topic, so I kinda won by default
  2. Loss – My opponent ended up getting 2nd place in the entire tourney. Judge thought I could have won had I been just a tiny bit more prepared
  3. Win – Greatest debate I’ve had thus far; destroyed my opponent and had a good time doing it =D
  4. Loss – My opponent this time ended up at 3rd; he was very good and had protected arguments

So the entire tournament went well and I made it to semi-finals, where I lost. Oh well at least I was able to see improvement in myself.

I wasn’t able to speak my oratory, due to the fact that if you are in debate, you aren’t allowed to cross-enter (at least that’s how it was for this tournament).

My First Debate Tournament

Well this weekend was my first tournament to go out of town for debate. It was quite an experience, and I learned a lot within a few minutes. So in LD Debate (that would be value debate), I dominated in 2 rounds, then got defeated once. I guess to make it to the elimination rounds in this tourney, you had to win all 3 of your preliminary rounds, because I didn’t make it. So that was lots of fun.

I kinda bombed my oratory. I had it memorized, but speaking a bit faster than I anticipated, I a little over 5 minutes long both rounds, when 8 is the recommended minimum. Everyone said it was the most interesting topic they had heard (hypocrisy among Christians), but that I needed to develop my speech more and polish it up.

Oh well. Twas a good first tournament.

The Girl is Cryin…

Well for some reason I really haven’t had much to write about lately, so sorry about that except for Obama getting the Nobel Peace award… what’s that about? I also took the PSAT yesterday… and it was incredibly easy. Just so you know. Anyways: me and Jared Brandon (my guitar teacher) came up with this silly little poem:

The girl is cryin,
Cuz the penguins are dyin,
But Al Gore’s just lyin,
And his theories are fryin,
Cuz the Earth ain’t dryin!

Oh yes. That’s talent.

The Random Post

Sorry, I’ve  really inactive lately. For some reason I’m having like writer’s block. Oh well.

So this isn’t a boring 16 word post, I’ll tell you some somewhat random things:

I took a personality test. It was actually pretty accurate (or at least I thought so). I was given the color gold. Here is some of the ways it described me:

  • “They are loyal, hard working, responsible, and dependable. They are clean, neat, well organized, and punctual.”
  • “Golds are natural leaders. Because they are so conventional, golds may become rigid, habit-bound, or set in their ways.”
  • “You will likely find bright golds in professions which require precision, order, and responsibility (law, military, record keeping, accounting, engineering). They enjoy running things and often take management roles.”

I thought that was somewhat accurate. I do enjoy responsibility and order!

I went to Canada last week too! It was gorgeous. The hills… and all the trees! Something you don’t see in windy West Texas. I would recommend going to Canada (Victoria, Canada to be exact).

I’m also learning guitar music so I can play for our youth group at my church. We don’t have a big band, usually just 3 or 4 people. I’m pretty excited about that.

I’m really excited about my Teen Leadership class at school. If you’ve read my two papers I’ve written (homosexuality and convincing atheists God exists) you know that this class is really interesting. And it really is. The teacher is great, the class is SUPER amazing, and I can just tell we are going to have loads of fun. My entire class would consider themselves Christians, even this Mormon girl, which I’m sure will be a great experience having a class with her. I’ll probably writing to you about this class often, it seems promising.

Well thanks for reading my random stuff. Feel free to share any of your random stuff. Really. Do it. Please.

Be Gone for a short while

Well I will be gone for the next week, and will return Saturday, June 27th.

For the recent spike in visitors, if you comment and it doesn’t automatically show up, that means I’ve gotta approve it. During my leave I will have no access to an internet connection, so sorry if your comment will need approval (keep it clean and it won’t). If you are a regular visit, you shouldn’t need approval.

I’ve got a couple small things that will automatically appear during the week, so check in every once in a while.

Have a good week!

New Domain!

Well if you take a quick glance at the URL bar above, you might notice the domain name change. If you don’t, then get your eyes checked.

The new domain is: www.ForeverChristianBlog.com

This was the old one: www.ForeverChristian.wordpress.com

If you still type in the old address (not really sure why you would want to), you will still be redirected to the the new one with no change in design or content.

I did this for a couple of reasons:

  1. Will now by much easier to tell other people about
  2. Was a pain having to write/type the entire long one before
  3. Just looks more professional =D
  4. A lot easier to remember

If you are subscribed by RSS feed, you may need to reenter the link (probably not though).

Where have I been?

I’ve been focussing a lot on some forums I came across the other day. I debate quite a bit with other people (mainly Christians) and have learned a lot!

Don’t worry, I haven’t abandoned this blog, just had an alter of focus. Expect posts regularly again.

Infinity?

in·fin·ity - without limit or end

I am going to use an example from the book The Case for a Creator by Lee Strobel:

Say you have an infinite amount of marbles. Now I really wanted to give you an infinite amount of marbles, so I just handed you the entire pile. So in this case: infinity – infinity = 0.

Now lets say that I gave you all the odd numbered marbles. I could give you an infinity amount, and still have an infinite amount left for myself. So in this case: infinity – infinity = infinity.

And now I give you all the marbles that are numbered above four. So now: infinity – infinity = 3.

So we have concluded that: infinity – infinity = 0, 3, and infinity. How is this possible? In the real world, there is a limit. In 50 trillion years in the future, infinity still will not exist, the number of whatever you are calculating will just be a lot bigger.

Now of course this only applies to our material world. Since nobody has been outside of it, we cannot say for sure what happens, so it is possible that God can live forever.

Thoughts?
